Specialty Courts: A Unique Path to Rehabilitation

Specialty courts offer alternative approaches to traditional criminal justice proceedings, focusing on treatment and support rather than punishment. These problem-solving courts address the unique needs of individuals facing specific challenges, such as substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and family-related legal issues. By providing structured programs, accountability, and access to resources, specialty courts help participants achieve stability and reduce recidivism in our communities. Our programs are funded with a mixture of federal and state funding and abide by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office best practice standards, as well as the All Rise best practice standards and key components.

Veterans Treatment Court

Designed for military veterans facing criminal charges, Veterans Treatment Court recognizes the impact of service-related trauma, such as PTSD and substance use disorders. This program connects veterans with treatment, mentorship, and support services to help them regain stability and successfully reintegrate into society.

Mental Health Court

Mental Health Court serves individuals whose involvement in the justice system is linked to a diagnosed severe and persistent mental health condition. By focusing on treatment and case management rather than incarceration, this court helps participants access mental health services, medication management, and support systems to improve their well-being and reduce repeat offenses.

Adult Felony Recovery Court

Also known as Drug Court, this program is for individuals facing felony charges related to substance use. Through structured supervision, treatment programs, and regular court monitoring, participants work toward recovery while avoiding traditional sentencing. The goal is long-term sobriety, personal accountability, and reduced recidivism.

Family Dependency Treatment Court

This court assists parents struggling with substance use disorders who are at risk of losing custody of their children. By providing treatment, parenting support, and close judicial oversight, the program aims to strengthen families, promote recovery, and create safe, stable home environments for children.
